Government forms Probe Commission to investigate Balkumari incident

January 01, Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal has formed a probe commission to conduct a fair and objective investigation of the incident that occurred in Balkumari, Lalitpur on Friday.
The cabinet meeting held this morning at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers decided to form a three-member high level commission chaired by former honourable judge of the High Court Mr. Shekhar Poudel, with former AIGP of Nepal Police Mr. Arun BC and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Mr. Narayan Prasad Bhattarai as members.
The Commission will study and analyze humanitarian and physical losses incurred and identity the causes of the incident. Likewise, through the study of the security management and security plan at the site, it will identify the weaknesses that prompted the incident.
The cabinet meeting also has mandated the Commission to evaluate the role of the individuals, officials and institutions related to this incident and recommend for actions against anyone deemed guilty.
The Commission, within a month, has to submit to the government a report with the facts of the incident where two youths lost their lives, and recommended measures to be taken to avoid such incidents in future.
